NFU Mutual says it is working with the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society to help people who were affected by flooding at the Welsh Winter Fair on Monday evening. Around 40 vehicles were damaged when the river Wye broke its banks and a car park was flooded.

NFU Mutual staff from the Builth Wells agency were at the fair and able to offer immediate help to policyholders. Continued support has been provided by the mutual’s network of motor engineers and local branches across the country.

Hugh Davies, senior agent at NFU Mutual in Builth Wells, said:

“Having our office on the showground meant that we were able to provide direct support to affected people and work closely with the show organisers to help people whose cars had been flooded.

“The show organisers acted appropriately and reasonably and, thanks to their prompt and professional response, none of the 13,000 visitors to the fair were injured. They did a great job helping people whose cars were flooded by arranging transport and helping them contact their families.

“This is still a difficult and distressing time for the people directly affected by this incident and we are committed to resolving things as soon as possible.”

Aled Jones, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s assistant chief executive, said: “We have a longstanding relationship with NFU Mutual and I must commend them on their prompt response and assistance in helping with the situation.”
