Late-night revelers, homeless people, families, and peace-makers in the Middle East will benefit from a six week appeal launched by a bishop this week to mark Lent.

The Bishop of Swansea and Brecon, John Davies, has chosen four charities for his Lent Appeal this year and is urging people to support them in the six weeks leading up to Easter. He hopes this year’s appeal will take the total raised by his seven Lent appeals so far to £100,000.

The charities are: Shelter Cymru, which helps homeless people and is based in Swansea; Brecon Street Pastors, which helps and cares for late-night revelers; Faith in Families – a diocesan initiative which runs family centres in disadvantaged areas; and the Holy Land Trust, which works for peace in the Middle East.

Bishop John said, “Through past Lent Appeals, we have donated more than £90,000 to good causes so I am sure, that with your support this year, we can easily take this total past £100,000.

“Every penny you give does good work in being used for the relief of the needs of others, so I hope that I can rely on you and your parishes to be prayerful, thoughtful and committed to doing something to raise funds for this year’s effort.”
