A SINGER who had a dream rise to prominence in London’s West End is coming to sing in Hay-on-Wye.
As a voice student Milly Forrest also worked as at part-time cloakroom attendant and usher at Wigmore Hall.
Her dream of becoming a professional singer came true one day when one of the sopranos for a weekend’s concert of songs by Schubert had to pull out.
The hall’s director, John Gilhooly, asked her if she could stand in, and a delighted – if somewhat terrified – Milly said yes.
Her superb performance alongside some prominent performers took the critics by surprise and she has since launched her own singing career while studying for her masters at the Royal College of Music.
This summer Milly will be working for Garsington Opera Company on their Alvarez Young Artist programme and in October she will be performing the role of Iris in the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra’s production of Semele conducted by Yu Long.
In 2020 she looks forward to covering the role of Barbarina in the ENO’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro (Marriage of Figaro).
In the more immediate future the promising lyric soprano has been booked to perform at St Mary’s Church in Hay-on-Wye on Sunday, March 17.
She will be accompanied on piano by Joseph Ramadan for the concert of songs from Italy, France, Germany and England which starts at 3pm.
Tickets can be bought from Richard Booth’s Bookshop, 44 Lion Street, Hay-on-Wye, or through the Booth Books website ([email protected]), by telephone on 0147 820322 or at the door.
