Malcolm Morrison, chairman of the society, said: "The hospital was designed by a local architect Telfer Smith and it was a labour of love. It was built and paid for entirely by the people of Builth and maintained until 1948 when the NHS took over.

"We're asking they incorporate the old hospital as part of the development."

WWH has said it will work with the people of Builth to make best use of the site.
