A BRECON couple have been given a double award from Prime Minister Theresa May.

Brian and Lorna Keylock were both named winners of the PM’s Points of Light award.

The daily award recognises outstanding individual volunteers and the Brecon couple have been honoured for their support for the Brecon and Sennybridge branch of Cancer Research Wales.

Brian, who is also known as Butch, and Lorna have raffled rugby jerseys ahead of every Wales game in the Six Nations championship for 20 years to support the charity.

"We were delighted to learn that we have received the Prime Minister’s Points of Light award and we would like to thank the people that nominated us," said Brian.

"We started fund-raising for Cancer Research after my mother/mother-in-law died and it snowballed from there.

We have enjoyed all the fund-raising we have done and intend to carry on for as long as we can. Cancer will be beaten one day."

The couple will receive a signed letter from Mrs May, who told them: "Your fundraising initiatives are known throughout your community and are having a great impact on the vital work of Cancer Research Wales."

They were nominated by Brecon and Radnorshire MP Chris Davies. He said: "I’m so pleased to hear that the hard work and fundraising achievements of Brian and Lorna have been recognised by the Prime Minister’s ’Points of Light’ award.

"I have often seen ’Butch’ and Lorna wrapped up warm in their scarves and coats selling raffle tickets for good causes in their both in Brecon. I am always amazed and inspired by their commitment.

"Cancer Research Wales does vital work to fund research in Wales to not only try to find a cure for cancer, but also to fund prevention and early diagnosis research too.

"I cannot imagine how many lives have been improved through Butch and Lorna’s fundraising, and I hope they continue selling their tickets and raising money for good causes long into the future."

Eira Jones, the chairman of the local branch, had put forward the couple to Mr Davies for recognition.
