THE Hours Cafe, Bookshop and Deli is hosting an exhibition by Bridget Stevens, a printmaker and painter who describes herself as having grown up in an artisitic Quaker family in Llanfrynach, near Brecon.
Bridget has spent many years working as a specialist in decorating and building restoration and she has taught use of colour on interior design courses in London.
As a member of Swansea Print Workshop she has exhibited in both group and solo exhibitions but this is her first solo exhibition in Brecon.
In the exhibition, which runs until Wednesday, November 29, Bridget will be showing a large selection of her original prints and she says her imagery draws on her own experiences of growing up locally, of many years of city living, and of personal bereavement.
She is interested in myths and archetypes which often evolve into personal re-interpretations, and she also draws on a gradual lifetime process of one’s own personal myth-making.
Running alongside Bridget’s work will be an exhibition of prints of paintings by Bridget’s mother, the late Meg Stevens, which offer a contrast to Bridget’s inciteful and often personal images.
