PUPILS from the eco council at Ysgol Y Cribarth have helped plant a Christmas tree in the school grounds which they hope will help the environment and grow with the community.

The youngsters, who planted the tree before the end of term, approached the Ystradgynlais school’s PTFA for funding. They then sourced a 4ft Nordmann fir tree from a local farm.

After helping to dig and hole and planting the tree, the youngsters placed the star-shaped ‘wishes’ decorations they had made in lessons on its branches.

Head teacher Gwyn Williams said he was extremely proud of the eco council who recently secured a £250 grant from Dwr Cymru to see if they can develop a project to harness energy from the school’s stream using hydro-electricity.
