LUCKILY for Gwenddwr’s 63rd Show, the rain held off ensuring an enjoyable day for everyone who turned up.

Show president Minnie Jones, now in her 90s, has been a stalwart supporter over the years, especially in the pony section. However, she takes a tremendous interest in everyone and everything, which she says keeps her going strong. In her speech, she reflected on her many friends who are no longer with us but who gave so much to the Show. She pointed out that their families continue to be the mainstay of the Show today, including the carnival queen, Beth Jones, whose nan, Joyce Jones died last autumn.

In the Pony field, Section As and Children’s Ridden classes were also of a high standard.

There was a well-deserved pedigree champion in the Dog Show and excellent professional standards in the Fur, Feather & Pets competitions, which prompted calls for an additional ‘novice’ class to be added next year to encourage more homely entries.

Fresh from the Royal Welsh, the Wye Valley Axe Display Team proved a tremendous attraction. Winner of the live weight for two bucket calves was Trevor Protheroe who correctly guessed 333kg.
