BRECON Town was inundated with colourful characters last weekend (May 19/20) when revellers from the Rorkes Drift Rally campsite on Watton Fields made their way over to The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh to present a cheque for £1,600 to the Museum staff. This money has been raised by the rally goers, and is just one of five charities that they help raise money for. The people in Brecon town were all too pleased to stop and chat with the rally goers, asking about the event and the charities that it supports, and were taking photos and joining in with the fun of the day.
Amanda Miles and Pete Thomas, the organisers of the event which sees 750 people attend Brecon each year, have said that from the onset of this rally, (which was started after Amanda’s brother had received treatment on the Military ward in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham,) that one of the main charities to support would be the Museum, as they are both very passionate about keeping the military history of Brecon alive and that the Museum is such a special place that adds the facts to the imagination of many of their rally attendees who attend this Zulu film themed event. This has been the fifth year that the museum has been supported by the rally, and Amanda and Pete have said that this will always happen for as long as the event continues, such is their respect for Brecon and its Military History.
