LIVE coverage of the Winter Fair from the Royal Welsh Showground will be available on S4C.
The Welsh language channel will be broadcasting throughout the two day festival which opens on Monday, November 30 at the showground in Llanelwedd, near Builth Wells.
Y Ffair Aeaf 2015 broadcasts start at 10am and continue throughout the day, with English commentary available via the red button services. There will also be a round-up of the day’s events on both Monday and Tuesday evening with Ifan Jones Evans and the team at 8.25pm and 9.30pm, with English subtitles available.
Popular presenter Dai Jones will be fronting the coverage which will also feature Nia Roberts, Meinir Howells, Ifan Jones Evans and David Oliver.
"I’ll be standing at the cattle ring from nine until four and I’m really looking forward to it," said the experienced farmer and presenter who is known as Dai Jones, Llanilar and for presenting the S4C series Cefn Gwlad.
"I’ve been going to the Fair for years since it started as a small affair. I believe it’s now the best Winter Fair in Europe. It has a wonderfully friendly feel; it’s homely and everyone comes together. It’s got everything a person needs for Christmas.
"Of course I won’t venture far from the cattle ring. Not even the delicious delicacies on offer to eat will pull me away. There’s something about the cattle competitions I really love."
The cattle ring is Dai’s firm favourite at the Winter Fair although the sheep ring comes a close second. Like Dai, many visitors to the show will be looking forward to the Supreme Championship for cattle. S4C will bring the result and find out the price of the winning heifer or steer.
"There are competitors from Scotland, England and Wales and it’s a great achievement to win the Supreme Championship for cattle," says Dai who has strong opinions on what makes a champion in the cattle ring: "It’s really important they have some meat on them – in the right places. They should also have a character – just as you’d expect in a person – and their handler must know how to show them at their best."
