Congratulations to Ysgol Y Mynydd Du on successfully achieving the Bronze Award for the Siarter Iaith – a national initiative to raise the profile of the Welsh language in schools. The Criw Cymraeg were delighted to accept their award on behalf of all the pupils and staff, who together, have worked extremely hard to promote the use of Welsh at every opportunity within the school setting. Ten targets were assessed, including the establishment of a positive Welsh ethos and the use of Welsh inside and outside the classroom. Everyone is enormously proud of what they have achieved during their journey leading up to this prestigious award and look forward to building on their language skills as they embark on the Silver Award. Head teacher, Sam Toone, would like to thank all those who made the project a great success.
The school was soon given further cause to celebrate. The Year 6 team from Ysgol Y Mynydd Du won the inaugural Cwis dim Clem final. This Welsh second language quiz was the perfect platform for the four Year 6 pupils to display their fantastic understanding of Welsh traditions, Maths skills, Geography and general knowledge. The event, organised by Menter Brycheiniog a Maesyfed, reached a nail-biting finale as the third and final round ended in a tie-break question. The pupils performed brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
