A SERVICE is to be held at a Breconshire church for merchant seaman Ioan Jones who is believed lost in the Mediterranean Sea. The search for the 28-year-old from Brecon was called off over the weekend. He had been missing since the early hours of Thursday, May 15 when he was believed to have jumped overboard as the ship, on which he was a crew member, sailed in waters around 340 miles south of Malta. Parents, Keith and Eirwen Jones, who live near Brecon, will hold a service in celebration of Ioan's life at St Mary's Church in Talachddu, Felin Fach on Sunday, June 1 at 2pm. The family are encouraging those attending to wear 'bright and colourful' clothing. The 28-year-old former Gwernyfed High School pupil had been working on board the tanker. His family said he was a 'beloved' son and an 'adored' big brother. For more on this story see this week's Brecon & Radnor Express - available now
