Charlotte Church’s new wellness retreat, in the heart of mid Wales, is now taking its first bookings.

Singer-songwriter Ms Church spent her life savings, £1.5 million, on a six-bedroom mansion, called Rhydoldog, near Rhayader, in February 2021.

The property, set among the rolling landscape of mid Wales, used to belong to Welsh fashion designer Laura Ashley, but had fallen into disrepair.

Ms Church, whose renovation of the house has been documented on Discovery+ channel’s My Dream Build, has now opened The Dreaming retreat for business.

There are just a handful of bespoke rooms on offer in the Dreaming, described as “a place for healing through experiencing beauty and wonder.”

Prices start at £150 per night for one person, which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, and all of your activities. A pay-what-you-can scheme is also offered for potential visitors.

Food is mostly vegan and vegetarian, with an option of locally sourced meat on a Sunday. No alcohol is permitted on site.

With an eye on the environment, The Dreaming website states that the retreat gets around 70 per cent of their energy from green energy sources on site. There are plans to introduce a solar array and wind power by 2024.

Outdoors there are several gardens and walks for guests to enjoy. Landmarks on site include the Waterfall Shower - where a sensitively crafted wood platform has been placed under a waterfall for guests to immerse themselves under the falls.

Speaking about the past 18 months, Ms Church said: “I was awestruck by the wonder of it: the vibrant energy of the land; the epic depths of the forests; the mythic fantasy of waterfalls and rocks and caves; the nourishing, life-giving water, seeping from every nook and cranny. I had no idea what a big part of my life it was going to become. It put me in a spin. I was obsessed, insatiable, like a lovesick teenager. An inescapable vision of an integrated healing centre in line with my most deeply held values filled my waking hours, and even entered my dreams.

“Over the next 18 months my life was a-whirl with renovations and design, construction and creativity. With the help of hundreds of talented collaborators, working in unimaginably diverse fields (from plasterers to indigenous tribal elders, sound healers and conservationists), I manifested The Dreaming from the land.”
