The A40 near Llandovery has reopened a week after it was closed when a sinkhole appeared in the tarmac.
The Welsh Government said the hole, which appeared on Wednesday, April 18 had been caused by a leak and it began emergency repair work over the weekend.Temporary traffic lights are now in use to allow traffic heading in both directions to continue moving along the road from this afternoon, Wednesday, April 25. Diversions had been in place along the A4069 and Llangadog after the stretch of road between Llandovery and Llanwrda was closed.A Welsh Government spokeswoman said: "A leaking water culvert has washed away material surrounding it, causing the road immediately above the leak to collapse."Dyfed-Powys Police closed the road from Llandovery to Llanwrda on Wednesday evening after the hole appeared in the carriageway.This morning, Thursday, it announced the sinkhole has been filled in and temporary traffic lights have been installed to keep traffic moving but problems have been caused by the temporary lights not woking as they should.Photographs show the tarmac on the west bound carriageway has collapsed in on its self. Police have said diversions are in place on the A4069 via Llangadog.The sinkhole is near Blaenos Nursing Home on the way into Llandovery.It is not currently known how long the road will remain closed.
