STORM Bronagh has forced the cancellation of one of Llandovery’s most popular events.
The Llandovery Sheep Festival was due to take place this weekend but organisers announced today the adverse weather predicted to continue this weekend has forced its cancellation.Strong winds have also brought down a tree which has fallen on the A470 in Brecon. Police were at the scene, near the Bishops Meadow turning on Thursday afternoon, as the tree was being removed. Only one of the two north bound lanes is in use.
In a post on Facebook Sheep Festival organisers said: "Our marquee provider raised concerns about both erecting on Friday, and dismantling on Monday, as well as the safety over the weekend with high winds forecast and a yellow weather warning in place."
They added that local pubs and hotels have however said they intend to continue with entertainment over the weekend.
Organisers say they hope to increase the use of indoor venues next year.
The event describes itself as celebrating "all things sheep" in the town associated with the ancient drovers and as well as sheep dog trials and shearing demonstrations the festival features live music throughout the town. The Sheep Festival was first held in 2010.
A yellow weather warning is currently in place for most of the UK and rain is predicted for Llandovery on Friday and Saturday with a yellow weather warning for strong wind in place for Sunday into Monday morning.
