FOURTEEN teams took part in a quiz night at the Black Mountain Lodge in Glasbury, which raised £627 for farming people in financial hardship.

The quiz was organised by the Brecon & Radnor committee of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I), farming’s oldest welfare charity which gave out grants of £283,000 in Wales last year.

To fund its work, R.A.B.I relies heavily on donations and money raised at events organised by committee members, local businesses, community groups and fundraising staff.

Elaine Stephens, chair of R.A.B.I’s Brecon & Radnor committee, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who supported us; it was a super evening and there was a lot of head-scratching going on. Steve Meredith was an excellent quizmaster and I would like to thank him for making the evening such fun.”

Elaine had particular cause to enjoy the night as she was part of the winning team, along with husband Vin and Ann and Peter Rowson. They each received a bottle of Aber Valley apple juice donated by Eifion Morgan.

Linda Jones, R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, said: “Farming families continue to need our help through such things as illness, accidents, animal disease and cash flow problems. R.A.B.I gave out more than £30k in Brecon & Radnor last year, event like this one really do help us to make a difference.”
