EUROPE’S largest agricultural event is underway at Llanelwedd with thousands of visitors arriving for the Royal Welsh Show. 

New UK government environment secretary Michael Gove is due to arrive at the showground, near Builth Wells, this morning. 

Warm sunshine has greeted visitors arriving at the showground on Monday morning. 

The annual event celebrates the best in Welsh farming but is also the opportunity for meaty discussions on rural issues. 

As well as Mr Gove, Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones and his rural affairs secretary Lesley Griffiths are attending the show.  The future of farming in the UK has become a hot topic between the UK government and the devloved administrations. 

The Nepalese ambassador to the UK and an official from the United States department of agriculture are among dignitaries attending the show today. 

Mr Jones is due to attend the opening of the show with this year’s president Brian Jones.
