A BRECON postman caught stealing cash from greeting cards has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

Stuart Malcolm Pickworth, aged 34 of the Uplands, Brecon, was caught out after bosses planted test packages, fitted with tracking devices in post boxes along his rural route around Brecon.

He had admitted two charges relating to theft of mail and was handed a 14 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

The court heard he had been struggling with debts and was remorseful.

He must also carry out 250 hours unpaid work in the community and pay the prosecution costs in full of £1,384 as well as £60 compensation.
