Three people from Breconshire have been arrested during the Extinction Rebellion in London.

Ella Titman Tamari and two men, who have not yet been named, are among those arrested in the UK capital for their part in the protest against climate change.

Fellow protester Sian Cox, from Llangors, has also been at the Extinction Rebellion, also known as XR, protest in London since Sunday.

She said that currently, there is a group on the wall outside the Home Office building with letters on their backs which read “keep us safe” when they turn around.

Sian said: “Three of the guys from our group have been arrested. We’re outside the Home Office on Marsham Street at the moment.

“We traveled up on the bus on Sunday and we’ve been here since then. Ella was arrested yesterday morning and the other two were last night.”

Sian said they have not moved from the Marsham Street occupation yet.

She said: “Last night, the group had blocked off the end of Marsham Street at the junction. They’d blockaded it with tents and people.

“The police arrived around midnight and two of our Brecon boys were the last to be removed.

“They locked themselves together with a metal pipe and basically the police had to go away and get specialist equipment to saw it off.”

The two men had got into the tent at around 10pm yesterday – the police removed them around 6.15am today.

Sian said: “They’re still in the cells at the moment. They haven’t been processed yet.”

Sian, Ella and the two men are all part of the Extinction Rebellion Brecon Group. Sian said they have also been joined by the Hay group and the group from Machynlleth.

Ella, from Llanwrtyd Wells, was arrested on Tuesday morning when she refused to leave the foyer of the Home Office on Marsham Street.

The group from the Brecon area includes protesters from Builth Wells, Talgarth, Erwood, Llangammarch and Talybont-on-Usk.

She was with other protesters who had glued themselves to the building’s sliding doors using super glue.

Sian said: “ Ella took part in a group of people who were in the foyer of the Home Office who had glued themselves to the sliding doors of the Department for Community and Local Government.

“Ella didn’t actually glue herself to the doors. The woman in front of her had just glued herself, and because it’s super glue it sets quickly, and some employees didn’t see what was going on.

“One employee who had not seen what was happening pressed the button for the doors to open.

“Ella sat and held the door open to stop the other woman’s hand being sucked in which would have just ripped the skin off her hand if it had.

“They made sure the employees didn’t press the button again. Ella was arrested because she wouldn’t move.”

The Extinction Rebellion, which first started nearly a year ago on October 31 2018, is a movement which uses civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance to protest against climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, and the risk of social and ecological collapse.

Thousands of protesters are currently in London as part of the movement.
