Workers struck an electrical cable on Builth Wells High Street yesterday causing huge sparks to emit from the road works.
Fire brigades attended and the National Grid were called upon too, as the road was cordoned off from pedestrians.
Builth Wells town council said that the sparks seemed to appear after the workers had left the area. In a statement yesterday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Town Council said: “Workers have struck an electrical cable, which caused massive sparks to emanate from the road works. Fire brigade are in attendance, and are waiting for National Grid to arrive. The the contractors are expected on sight to make good the road works.
“It seems the sparking started sometime after the workers had left. At this stage, although the electric supply is still on, the road is cordoned off from pedestrians from the Cribs junction to the old Barclays Bank.
“The Mayor has visited the site and spoken to the Fire Officers…he will be making contact with the road works project managers to find out exactly what has lead to this.”
