A YOUNGSTER from Brecon has earned himself a coveted Blue Peter Badge after completing a mammoth mountain trek in his home.
Wilfred Goodrich, aged seven, embarked on a gruelling challenge which saw him walk the equivalent of the ascent of Pen y Fan up and down the stairs at his Camden Road home.
He and his dad Barney climbed the three-storey property’s 29 stairs 156 times - a total of 886 metres.
The Llanfaes CP School pupil spent four hours tackling the trek on April 5 and was rewarded with a letter and badge from Blue Peter.
Dad Barney, a teacher at Christ College, said: “We are obviously very proud. It was an idea inspired by lockdown.
“It was a lovely day and we could see Pen y Fan from our home, but couldn’t climb it. So we decided to measure the distancing using a bit of maths and work out how many steps it would take for us to get over the mountain - and then we did it.”
He added:: “It was really tough, but great fun.
“We suffered the next day with sore calves though.”
Wilfred has always wanted a Blue Peter Badge so he wrote a letter to the show in the hope of finally getting his hands on one.
And his wish came true.
Barney said: “He is very pleased with his badge.”
