The Llandrindod Youth Market, an event designed to give enterprising young people in the town a chance to operate a market stall for a day, is celebrating its first birthday on by teaming up with local business Junk ‘n’ Disorderly.

The first birthday event, which will be held in the Memorial Gardens in Llandrindod Wells, will feature more than 12 stalls, each run by young people from the area aged between 11 and 25. There will be a range of goods on offer, from handmade craft through to delicious street food prepared by the market traders.

Junk ‘n’ Disorderly will also be hosting a local craft market to showcase the town’s creative talent. Stalls are open to any age and a small charge of £5 is being charged, which is will go to local Llandrindod-based charity Bracken Trust, which empowers people to live with, through and beyond cancer.

The event will start at 10am on September 17, with trading accompanied by talented young performers from the town and surrounding area, who will be taking to the stage and create a lively atmosphere.

After the first Youth Market in September 2015, the Youth Market has run a further three times, with the majority of organisation being handled by an ambitious Youth Market Committee who are passionate about keeping the idea alive in the town. The Youth Market Committee has met almost every week, to arrange details such as location, logistics and insurance. The operation has been overseen by a group of adult volunteers, led by Llandrindod Town Champion, Jude Boutle.

Patrick Sheehey, owner of Junk ‘n’ Disorderly, said: “It is going to be a great day! I am really pleased to support Youth Market because these markets bring people into the town as well as giving our young people an opportunity to trade and perform. Holding a local craft market alongside the Youth Market seemed the perfect way to celebrate creativity in the area and provide a great day out for all”

Fifteen-year-old Ben Williams, chairman of the Youth Market Committee, said: “The Youth Market has been amazing for us. It has given us real world experience of running a business and a glimpse of what we can do as enterprising individuals. We are so excited about our first birthday and know it’s going to be a great day for everyone who comes along. Over the past year we have been thankful for the ongoing support of the great community in Llandrindod Wells and want to thank everyone who has come, helped out, volunteered and helped us get trading. We look forward to seeing you again on September 17.”

The Youth Market will run from 10am in the Memorial Gardens, Llandrindod Wells. There will be traders, competitions and performances from local young people.
