A band of Zulus took shoppers by surprise in Brecon on Saturday as they celebrated the 135th aniversary of their king, Cetshwayo, travelling to Britain to ask for help from Queen Victoria to be reinstated to his throne.

The troop of about 40-50 zulus danced and sang as they made their way through the town centre before they stopped in Bethel Square and ran through a range of traditional Zulu songs.

A crowd of shoppers gathered around them taking photos and videos and clapping politely when the impromptu performance came to an end.

The Zulu presence in Brecon has been timed to coincide with a three-night run of King Cetshwayo the musical, written by Jerry Pooe, at Theatr Brycheiniog.
