ROTARY’S Welsh Disabled Sports Team Championship took place in the lovely Newport Sports Village last Sunday, November 4.
It is an annual event attended by disabled sports clubs from South, Mid and West Wales and organised by Wales Rotary Club members.
Each competitor can play three sports chosen from swimming, Boccia, target football, table tennis, new age curling, pool, basketball shoot out, weight lifting, shotput, target tennis and target golf. Teams of 8-10 athletes have a great time gaining points by skill and relaxing with friends.
Brecon Integrated Sports Association has been practising hard for the competition so that two teams, Brecon Stars and Brecon Legends, achieved their most wins ever. Trophies were awarded to Brecon for winning table tennis, target tennis and target golf and Chloe Abbott won Female Sports Personality for her enthusiasm and bravery at trying weight lifting. The success was down to the hard work of each and every young person on club training nights, keeping themselves fit and during the competition.
The Rotarians give an amazing amount of time and work each year, organising the event and raising funds for trophies, hiring the tennis centre and much more. A special thank you to Rotary from Brecon.
Brecon Integrated Sports Association is always on the look-out for volunteer sports coaches and assistants.
