NEWBRIDGE were celebrating a Spar Mid Wales League second division double over Builth Wells following a 3-1 victory at the weekend.
Builth went into the game on the back of four successive league wins but local derbies often upset the form book and Newbridge triumphed despite falling behind. Josh Price had handed Builth an early lead and they were the better side for the first hour but failed to take further chances.
And newbridge made the pay as Lyndon Jones capitalised on a defensive error to net from 20 yards. Newbridge were ahead when a Lyndon Jones free-kick was spilled and Aled Jones was on hand to slot away the rebound and Ollie Woods settled it for The Villagers, heading home a Lyndon Jones cross at the far post.
Radnor Valley kept their faint hopes of promotion alive with a 4-0 home success over Abermule. Joe Price and Oliver Jones each netted twice for Radnor who host Kerry in Division Two Cup semi-final this week-end.
Presteigne had a day to forget crashing to a 5-0 defeat at Dyffryn Banw while Penybont went down 2-1 at home to Bettws. Tom Lewis netted for The racecourse side who had sufficient chances to have taken at least a point.
Penybont had suffered a heavy 8-0 defeat at Berriew in midweek and Berriew moved ever closer to promotion to Division One on Saturday with a 7-0 win at Bont.
