Brecon Corries netted a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to earn a pulsating 5–5 draw with Croesyceiliog in their Elite Stands UK Ardal South East clash at the Rich Field. In a match that truly lived up to the cliché of a game of two halves, both sides delivered attacking football, defensive lapses, and a finale that left spectators breathless.
The visitors struck first in the fifth minute when Jamie Hill curled a superb free-kick from just outside the penalty area into the top corner. Corries looked to respond immediately, with Jay Hughes cutting inside from the left touchline, but his low drive was comfortably saved by Croesyceiliog keeper Josh Winstone.
Croesyceiliog doubled their lead just three minutes later through Rhys Brown, despite protests from the Corries over a foul on captain Dale Evans in the build-up. The visitors nearly added a third in the 12th minute when a corner was pulled back to Jordan Hill, but his shot flew over the bar.
Corries began to find their rhythm, with Joel Evans seeing a close-range volley blocked from a 21st-minute free-kick. Two minutes later, they had penalty appeals waved away after Jamie Williams was challenged in the box. Hughes attempted a lob from distance in the 25th minute, narrowly missing the target, and Evans’ 25-yard free-kick struck the side netting moments later.
Croesyceiliog extended their lead in the 31st minute when Brown latched onto a well-timed pass from Morgan Devlin and lifted the ball over advancing keeper Steve Price. Evans’ header from a 34th-minute corner was blocked, and Zach Duke’s promising run into the box was halted by a well-timed challenge from Paul Keddle.
Brown completed his first-half hat-trick five minutes before the break, guiding the ball past Price via the upright. Croesyceiliog nearly made it five in stoppage time when Jordan Hill struck the post after a corner was only partially cleared.
After the interval, the match took a dramatic turn. The weather shifted, and so did the momentum. Evans headed wide from a 50th-minute corner, and Jordan Hill missed with a header six minutes later. Corries pulled one back on the hour mark when Hughes cut the ball back for Evans to sweep home.
Just two minutes later, Hughes missed a golden opportunity, firing over from close range with the goal at his mercy. Croesyceiliog nearly responded instantly, but Brown’s effort struck the crossbar. Evans had another shot blocked in the 71st minute before scoring again a minute later, sliding the ball past Winstone after a through ball from Hughes.
Croesyceiliog thought they had scored a fifth in the 73rd minute, but it was ruled out for a foul on Price. Corries made it 4–4 two minutes later when Hughes was released by Kai Saurin and fired into the roof of the net.
Substitute Finlay Daniels went close to levelling in the 77th minute, firing narrowly over after a corner was partially cleared. Corries were handed a lifeline in the 89th minute when Jamie Hill was sent off for handling on the goal line, and Dale Evans converted the penalty to make it 4–4.
There was another twist when Brown scored his fourth in the 94th minute to restore Croesyceiliog’s lead. But Damien Daniels’ side refused to give in. In the 102nd minute, substitute Ossian Wiltshire raced onto a Mitchell Davies pass and beat Winstone to the ball, slotting home to seal a remarkable 5–5 draw and conclude an unforgettable afternoon.
