Due to visible blue-green algae on Llangorse Lake, restrictions have been placed on lake activities.
Blue-green algae can cause skin irritation, stomach issues, and is especially harmful to children and pets if ingested.
A spokesperson for the lake management team said: “Our ultrasound buoys are working to clear the bloom, which we hope to be short lived.”
Rowing boats and pedalos are allowed, however waterskiing, paddleboarding, kayaking or any immersive sports are not allowed. Canoeing is dependent on daily water quality and user ability.
The Llangorse Lake Facebook page say they will post updates when possible.
Natural Resource Wales described how blue-green algae can affect you. A spokesperson said: “Bloom and scum-forming blue-green algae can produce toxins. Toxin-producing blooms are called Harmful Algal Blooms. These toxins can kill wild animals, farm livestock and domestic pets. In humans, they can cause rashes after skin contact and illnesses if swallowed. Not all blue-green algae blooms and scums are toxic, but you can’t tell just by looking at them, so it’s best to assume they are.”
