LLANWRTYD Wells Fire Station received two awards at the eighth annual Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service awards.

The on-call fire station was recognised for its role on the harrowing night in October 2017 when five children and their father died in a blaze at a farmhouse in Llangammarch Wells.

The station won the Station of the Year award and shared the Chief Fire Officer’s Exceptional Achievement Award with crews involved in fighting the Aberystwyth Hotel Fire this year.

In their citation for the Station of the Year Award, Llanwrtyd Wells Fire Station was described as a “truly exceptional on-call station”.

The Chief Fire Officer’s award citation said Llanwrtyd Wells Fire Station had shown “the utmost professionalism and bravery” during the blaze in Llangammarch Wells and were “true ambassadors to their communities”.

The Chief Fire Officer’s Exceptional Achievement Award is awarded in recognition of an exceptional achievement in achieving MAWWFRS’s aims and objectives.

The awards ceremony was held at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, and hosted by BBC Sports presenter Tomos Dafydd.
