Pontfaen Young Farmers Club (YFC) members enjoyed a highly successful showing at this year’s Royal Welsh Winter Fair, demonstrating their skill and professionalism across a variety of competitions.
17-year-old Ollie Davies continued his winning streak in the YFC Chicken Jointing (28 and Under) class, claiming the title for a second consecutive year. Competitors were required to joint a whole chicken into portions and present it neatly in a tray, ready for freezing. The judge praised Ollie for his exceptionally clean carcass work, noting minimal waste and a high standard of butchery.
The club also enjoyed strong results in the Open Livestock Competitions. Brothers Kaiden and Joshua Witcomb impressed in the Young Handlers section, taking the Champion Pair of Sheep award. They also achieved third place with their pair of Black Welsh Mountain lambs and fifth place with their pair of Kerry Hill lambs.
Kaiden and Joshua prepared and trimmed all their sheep themselves, demonstrating skills they have developed through YFC, having taken part in the county lamb trimming competition over the past two years.
A spoksperson for Pontfaen YFC said: “These achievements highlight the dedication, hard work, and talent of the club’s young members, who continue to excel on major agricultural stages.”
