Mountain rescuers were called to waterfalls near Brecon to assist with an injured walker.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team attended the “young lady” yesterday afternoon - Thursday, February 24 - as she had sustained a leg injury at the Blaen y Glyn Waterfalls.

It is understood that the young walker had been taking part in an organised group activity at the time.

The voluntary mountain rescue team’s casualty carers gave the brave young adventurer pain relief and splinted her leg - the lady’s age is not known.

A Brecon Mountain Rescue Team spoke spokesperson said: “She was then transported back to the car park where she was transported to hospital for treatment. We wish the young lady a swift recovery.”

The team, which is on call 24 hours a day for 365 days a year, relies on fundraising from the public - especially after the last two years when they have not been able to host their usual fundraising events.

A spokesperson has previously said: “The need for mountain rescue has continued during the pandemic, but Covid restrictions have led to the cancellation of all of the team’s outdoor fundraising events, so Brecon Mountain Rescue has suffered a serious loss of income.

“Each call out costs an average of £550; with around 100 callouts per year, the annual running cost of the team is £55,000.00.”
