A DETECTIVE who supported the family of the Llangammarch house fire victims has been nominated for a police award.
Brecon-based DC Michelle Beeson was a family liaison officer for the family affected by the October 2017 family at a farmhouse in Llangammarch Wells that claimed the lives of a father and five of his children.
She and three other Dyfed-Powys Police officers are nominated for the force’s #WeCare award which is decided by a public vote.
In January members of the public were asked to put forward names of officers and police staff they felt had gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care and support.
DC Beeson’s nominator said: "“That year was the hardest year of our lives, and yet having Michelle as our family liaison officer made the whole process slightly more bearable. She offered support, advice, and sometimes she just knew that all I needed was a hug. Michelle always conducted herself in such a professional manner and also showed she truly cared."
Also nominated is PC Gearint Skyrme, of Brecon, a school school liaison officer and has been nominated for his positive work with school pupils.
The nominator said: “Without a doubt he has had an absolute positive impact in promoting citizenship throughout the schools and our wider community. He displays compassion, confidence, empathy and is engaging with all pupils. PC Skyrme has met this role head on and with gusto, all who meet him hold him in high regard.”
PCSO Caryl Griffiths, of Cardigan has been nominated by the grandmother of Kiara Moore who tragically passed away last March, just a week before her third birthday, when the car she was in rolled and sank into the river Tiefi in Cardigan.
Kiara’s grandmother said: "The wonderful lady jumped into the freezing river to rescue her."
PC Matthew Richards, based at Lampeter, has been nominated for the support he has provided to a suicidal man and his family.
Chief Constable Mark Collins said: “Thank you all for taking the time to nominate an officer or police staff for our #WeCare 2019 award.
“Four very worthy officers have been shortlisted from those nominations and now you have the chance to have your final say and choose your winner.
“This award is about the community having the chance to tell us about an officer that deserves recognition.”
