Brecon is continuing the search for a 96-year-old woman who has been missing since Saturday morning.

Residents have grouped together to search the town for Rita, who was last seen at 10.20am on February 26.

The market town’s community previously came together on the Brecon and Surrounding Areas Community Group to discuss areas searched and to share any updates.

The new Facebook page posted an update this morning - Monday, February 28 - to say Rita is still missing and urging residents to check their properties.

It said: “Currently no additional information regarding Rita. SEACHING will continue today .

“So please continue to look when your out walking. Please also check your own property and If you have CCTV.

“Please check it as any information is essential. If you have any sighting or critical information please call 101.”

The emergency services have been helping to locate Rita throughout the weekend with an increased police presence seen in the town.

Dyfed-Powys Police said it is “increasingly concerned” for Rita’s welfare.

The force said that Rita, who may be wearing a fleece jumper with a leaf design, is thought to be travelling on foot.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have also been helping with the search, including of the river Usk in the town.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team are have also joined the search which has also seen a helicopter searching the town.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “Residents will see an increased police presence in Brecon Town as enquiries continue and searches are being conducted in the area by Brecon Mountain Rescue, Mid & West Wales Fire Service & National Police Air Service

“Anyone who has seen Rita, or knows of her whereabouts, is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police.”
