Fire crews have been working for five days to contain a series of blazes in the Elan Valley, with emergency services and partner agencies still on the ground today.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service was first called to reports of fire near Cwmystwyth on Sunday, April 26, and has since responded to multiple wildfire incidents across the area.
The incident remains ongoing, with crews continuing to tackle flames in difficult, remote terrain. Natural Resources Wales has also deployed a firefighting helicopter, which has been carrying out targeted water drops over high conservation ground that is hard to reach on foot.
The fire has affected sensitive habitats, including peatland, areas used by nesting birds, and land supporting rare plant and small mammal species.
Public health advice remains in place due to smoke from grass and wildfire activity. People in affected areas are being urged to stay indoors where possible, keeping windows and doors closed. Drivers are advised to keep car windows and air vents shut and switch off air conditioning if travelling through smoke-affected routes.
Anyone experiencing symptoms linked to smoke exposure is advised to contact NHS 111 Wales.
The public are also being asked to avoid the area entirely to allow emergency crews to work safely and without obstruction. Officials have warned that driving to or near the site can put both the public and responders at risk.
With dry conditions continuing, agencies are again urging people to act responsibly and follow #WildfireWise guidance.
This includes never lighting fires in the countryside, avoiding disposable barbecues unless explicitly permitted, fully extinguishing any used barbecues, taking all litter home - particularly glass - and reporting any signs of fire immediately by calling 999.
