Relieved students at Brecon High School have said they are heading to Wetherspoons for a celebratory breakfast after collecting their A Level results.

The group of, now former, pupils at the town’s high school plan on having a celebratory meal this morning at J D Wetherspoon’s The George Hotel after they finally received their much-anticipated results.

Eleri Phillips got an A* in English Literature, an A in her Welsh Baccalaureate and two Bs in Business Studies and History.

The 18-year-old, who will be going to the University of Bristol to study Criminology in September, said: “I’m really very happy, I wasn’t expecting it.

“I’m actually going to Green Man Festival to celebrate, I’ll be leaving at midday to get there.

“We’re all going to Wetherspoons to have breakfast to celebrate now.”

Ceri Davies is also heading to the University of Bristol, which she said was her “firm” choice, to study Geography but in September 2020.

Ceri, also 18, said she was nervous before receiving her three Bs in Geography, Sociology and Business Development this morning.

She said: “I’m very happy, and pleased. I was very nervous. I’ve got a gap year which I’m starting in January which is just going to be around Europe.

“I’m planning on celebrating with friends tonight.”

David Perrin, who is getting ready to go to the University of Manchester to study Physiotherapy, was also excited following his results.

David, also 18, said: “I’m happy. I’m very excited. I hadn’t really worried until this morning – I woke up early and I actually got here an hour early.

“I got my A Level results before I checked my UCAS”.

David jokingly added: “I wanted the suspense.”

Fellow former Brecon High pupil Lily Edmonds, who is also 18, was also relieved to receive her results.

She said: “I got a B in Art, a C in my Welsh Bacc and a D in Design Technology.

“I feel good, I am relieved. I’m planning to have a gap year now, although I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet.

“I’m planning to go with the flow for now. I’ll be going to Spoons.”

Student Harry Slade said he was relieved to have held the same grades he received when he finished his AS Levels.

The 18-year-old said: “I’m happy, I was worried I was going to stop but I managed to hold the same grades as I got last year.

“I’m heading to Nottingham Trent University to study Journalism which I am excited about. I haven’t got any plans to celebrate yet, but I’m sure I will make some.”

It has been a good year for Wales' A Level Results as the number of pupils receiving the top grade, A*, is at its highest since it was introduced in 2010.

Grades A* and A had increased slightly to 27% with 9.1% at A*. Wales outperformed all regions of England and Northern Ireland at A* this year.
