THE Powys Radnor Federation of Women’s Institutes held their annual show at Knighton Community Centre when the overall winners were Aberedw WI who received the County Shield.

As well as gaining the Craft trophy for the highest number of points in the craft section they were awarded the Mr and Mrs Duncan Thomas Award. The guest of honour was Mair Stephens, the Wales Federation Committee Chairman, who presented the awards at the end of the day. The overall theme for the County Competitions was ‘Summer Glory’. The runners up were Llanfair Waterdine who were awarded the Peter Jenkins award and the staging and display crystal vase, together with the Millennium Trophy. They were followed in third place by Dolau WI who gained the Federation Cup. The N&P award for the WI with under 15 members achieving the highest marks in a series of classes went to Newbridge on Wye. The John Lewis Memorial Shield for the arts section went to Llandegley and the Yvonne Mills Bowl for the photography section went to Llanddewi. The Rebe Brick award for flowers in a rose bowl went jointly to Felindre and Rhayader WIs. The individual competition winners were as follows: cookery cake containing vegetables Stowe and Stanage, a round of shortbread Llanfair Waterdine, a fruit tart Aberedw and fruit jam Tremont. First place in the garden flowers to complement went to Dolau. In the craft competitions Aberedw took first in the SunHat for a Child and the sugar craft spray for a celebration cake was won by Dolau. The item of beadwork was won by Howey and the art competition was won by Llandegley. The winner of the photographic competition was Llanddewi. The beginners floral competition was won by Dolau WI. The winner of the Rose Bowl was Dolau and the winner of the Brecon Cup was Tremont.
