DOG owners are being asked to keep their animals under control - amid fears for the safety of sheep.

The Radnorshire Wildlife Trust says it is concerned that a large number of sheep at its Gilfach nature reserve, which sits in the Marteg Valley just north of Rhayader, may have been lost as a result of dog worrying over the summer months.

Farmer Mervyn Jones believes the majority of around 30 sheep he lost between May and October was due to dog worrying.

Radnorshire Wildlife Trust's Julian Jones said it could consider banning dogs from the nature reserve.
