MORE than a hundred people turned out on Saturday, June 18 as the former Labour MP, Kim Howells, opened the summer exhibition at the Pen y Fan Gallery in Brecon.

Dr Howells is noted for his controversial comments on modern art. He recently compared the winning entry in a Welsh arts prize – a painted sheep fleece – to Dougal, the shaggy dog from the children's TV series, The Magic Roundabout. Back in 2002, Dr Howells famously attacked entries to the prestigious Turner Prize as "conceptual bulls***".
