ARTISTS across Brecon will be opening their studios to the public this weekend as part of a “walking art trail”.
The third annual Brecon Town Open Studios Event will take place over Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 6pm both days.
All of the working studios along the trail, which are based in historical buildings as well as some of the artists’ homes, are free to enter.
The “walking trail”, which will be marked by distinctive houses and arrows, will take art lovers around the town with views of the cathedral, both the rivers Usk and Honddu as well as the mountains.
Guests can get a map with information about the event from any of the studios as well as at some other venues around the town.
There will be refreshments available at some of the studios for a donation to the Friends of Brecon or Brecon and District Mind.
Some of the artists who will be taking part include photographer Sylwia Mucha, sculptor and weaver Sue Hiley Harris, artist Angharad Pickering, painters Hilda Benham, Veronica Gibson and Gemma Schiebe and jewellery maker Sarah Powell.
Ms Hiley-Harris said: “Visitors can expect to see many different sorts of art from painting and photography to weaving and sculpting.
“It’s also an opportunity to see how people work, and to learn what sorts of art they can do at home – so they can meet people like Sylwia Mucha who, weather permitting, will be showing visitors how to turn a tin can into a camera and how she turned her downstairs bathroom into a darkroom.
“There are a variety of artists, from established more well-known artists to upcoming artists and we have some new artists joining us for their first year such as Sylwia, Phil Luffman and Christine Lewis.”
Visit the Brecon Town Open Studios website for more information including the full list of artists.
