Brecon Beacons-born James Marr and the Bamboo Bicycle Club are set to make cycle history as they create the world’s first 3D printed bamboo bike during an exclusive three-day event at the London Design Museum.

The free event (taking place on April 8-10) will see Bamboo Bicycle Club founder James Marr, originally from Aberbran, design and build a bike in front of a live audience over three days. Parts will be designed and printed throughout the weekend using a 3D printer to help create a bike that can be ridden away by the end of the third day.

James first started testing how to build bamboo bicycles after he moved into a house in Glasbury-On-Wye with his two siblings who were also establishing the PR agency A Marr + Associates. After spending years developing the bikes, James moved to London and set up a large workshop and teaching area.

To help fund the project the Bamboo Bicycle Club have teamed up with Oxford Brookes University and Hackney Wick’s Autumn Yard Collective to set up a Kickstarter appeal and are asking for support from anyone interested in helping make cycle history.

Rewards for pledges include tickets to the ‘Cycle Revolution’ exhibition and an exclusive three-day bamboo bike workshop with founder James Marr where you and three friends friends can build the bike of your dreams. There’s also the chance to take home world’s first ‘aero bamboo bike’ prototype, currently on display at the London Design Museum.
