BBC 1's 'The One Show' is to be broadcast live from this year's Hay Festival, it has been revealed.

The early evening magazine show, presented by Alex Jones, will visit Hay-on-Wye as part of the broadcaster's extended coverage of the town's annual literary festival, held every May.

Sometimes One Show host Chris Evans will also be returning to the festival to present his Radio 2 breakfast show while BBC Radio 6 Music presenters Cerys Matthews, Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie will also broadcast from Hay.

Radio 4 and Radio 3 will also broadcast live from the festival while Martha Kearney and Razia Iqbal will interview some of the star names from the world of literature appearing at Hay for 'Talking Books' on BBC World News.

The BBC's director general Tony Hall outlined its planned Hay coverage in a key speech at London's Broadcasting House to reaffirm its commitment to covering the arts.

Hay Festival has already announced Al Murray will bring his 'Pub Landlord' show, 'The Only Way is Epic' to Hay, where he will also talk about his book 'Watching War Films With My Dad' - which explores his family's World War II obsession.

Other stars to appear at this year's festival include South African jazz trumpeter Hugh Masekela who appeared at the 2010 Brecon Jazz Festival, American satirist PJ O'Rourke and TV survivalist Bear Grylls.
