Tourism partners across the Brecon Beacons National Park are ready for any adventures the year may bring following the ‘Tourism in the Park’ event.
More than 90 partners, businesses and community groups came together at Llangynidr Village Hall to hear about Visit Wales’ exciting ‘Year of Adventure’ campaign and start thinking about plans for the “Year of Legends” campaign for 2017. The public and private sectors are working together to promote the National Park as the destination to visit in 2016.
Geraint Thomas from Visit Wales told the conference about the work being planned to promote adventure in Wales and how they could get involved in 2016. Angharad Wynne talked about the rich history of legends and stories which the Brecon Beacons has in abundance and how to share them with our visitors during the Year of Legends in 2017.
The conference which was organised by the Brecon Beacons Sustainable Tourism Partnership. Its chair Peter Cole said: "It was a real privilege to chair Tourism in the Park 2016 - the new venue and format led to a real buzz about the Brecon Beacons’ tourism achievements and the potential for the years ahead. It was great to hear from inspiring speakers and then see so many businesses and organisations sharing ideas as a result - that is what the destination partnership is all about."
Anna Heywood, of Drovers Holidays, said: "Tourism in the Park 2016 was a very worthwhile event for me as it offered an opportunity to catch up with tourism industry colleagues and get the latest news from Visit Wales and BBNPA.
"I also made some new connections with local food producers and activity providers. As a small business owner it’s all too easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day stuff. Events like this allow you to step back and see the big picture, work out how to get involved in campaigns like Year of Adventure and to get excited about the fantastic potential our area offers to visitors. On top of all that it was a beautiful sunny winter’s day so I had great views of the Brecon Beacons at their best on the way there."
Carl Shaw, the National Showcaves Centre for Wales, said: "I’d like to thank Brecon Beacons Tourism for organizing such an informative meeting and we are very much encouraged with the attendance showing that Tourism does mean a lot to the people of the Brecon Beacons and are looking forward to working with Brecon Beacons Tourism and other members in the coming months."
