A NEW park bench has been installed in The Groe in Builth Wells to mark the 100th anniversary of the town’s Women’s Institute.

The wooden bench has been positioned near the bowling green and affords an uninterrupted view of the River Wye.

Builth Wells WI celebrated their 100th anniversary in October 2016 and the bench has now been unveiled.

A plaque has been placed on the bench which reads: “Builth Wells WI 1916-2016. Please take a pew and enjoy the view.”

Builth WI president Christine Harris was grateful to Powys parks department for their help in installing the bench.

She said: “As a group we decided it was a good idea that we buy a bench to commemorate this.

“Everything was put into the hands of Stephen Gealy of the parks department, who did a grand job of obtaining and placing the bench in our designated place on The Groe.”
