A biker in Brecon was given an instant prohibition when police caught them with bare tyres on Monday.

The tyres were so worn that the cord underneath the rubber was showing in a clear split around the tyre’s circumference.

The rider, who was stopped for running a red light, was reported as well as receiving the driving ban.

A spokesman from Brecon Roads Policing tweeted: "Motorcycle drives trough a red light! Upon stopping the rider discovered the motorcycle had the cord exposed! Rider reported and immediate prohibition in place!"

Unlike with cars, motorbike tyres' tread depths vary between different bikes depending on their weight, size and speed.

Tyres which are not at the correct inflation pressure, in good condition or with enough tread can negatively impact on the safety and handling of the bike.
