A BODY has been discovered in the river Wye at Rhayader following an appeal to find a missing man.

Police had said they were concerned for 80-year-old William or Bill Barratt who had not been seen since leaving his house in Worcester on Saturday, July 16 to go fishing.

Dyfed-Powys Police located Mr Barratt’s car at Rhayader Rugby Club and contacted both Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team to carry out a search of the area.

A kayak search team from the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team located a body in the river on Monday.

West Mercia Police said Mr Barratt’s family has been informed of the discovery.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mark Jones from Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said: "This incident was an excellent example of inter-agency cooperation and our thoughts are with Mr Barratt’s family and friends."
