A body found in Builth Wells has been identified as that of James Corfield who’d gone missing during the Royal Welsh Show.

A search was launched last Tuesday after the 19-year-old, who’d been been camping at the Young People’s Village, near the Llanelwedd showground failed to meet his family as arranged.

Searches found a body in the river Wye on Sunday, July 30 and police said James’ family had been informed.

Dyfed-Powys Police today confirmed the body was that of James from Montgomery in Powys.

A police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm the body found in Builth Wells on Sunday, July 30 has been positively identified as 19-year-old James Corfield."

His family also issued a tribute to the "farming family guy" who considered the Royal Welsh to be a highlight.

The family said: "James was very much a farming family guy - farming was his life, and he loved his animals with a passion.

"A visit to the Royal Welsh Show was a real highlight for him - and seeing the sheep and poultry judging was something he really looked forward to. He went to the Royal Welsh Show every year throughout his life, and we have fond memories of taking him as a child, which we will always treasure.

"James was a keen cricketer and a gifted player, and played for Montgomery Cricket Club.

"He was recently awarded Shropshire Division 2 Cricketer of the Year, and the league’s young player of the year in 2016, a massive achievement for someone his age and something he was incredibly proud of.

"We will miss James with all our hearts, and are utterly devastated. We are very grateful to all the volunteers who helped with the search, and for all the messages of support, but we ask now to be left in privacy."St Mary’s Church in Builth Wells will be open tomorrow (Tuesday) for prayers for James Corfield and his family.Prayers were said for James, a member of Montgomery Young Farmers' Club, his family, and all those involved in the search by the showground’s chaplaincy team and on-going Christian support continues with St Mary’s, Builth being open from 10am for prayer.
