Police are appealing for information after a pregnant ewe was seriously injured in a livestock-worrying incident on farmland next to Pwll-y-Wrach nature reserve, near Talgarth.

The incident occurred at around 4pm on Sunday (December 7), when dogs reportedly chased the ewe into a brook, leaving her with severe injuries that required surgical treatment from a vet.

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police warned that livestock worrying is a criminal offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, which covers any attack or chase of farm animals causing injury or suffering.

A spokesperson for the police said: “This isn’t just a threat to a farmer or land owner’s livelihood, it’s also a dangerous situation for the animals involved, and could lead to more risk if the animals get onto the road.”

Police are urging dog owners to keep their pets under control at all times, particularly near farmland and wildlife areas. Anyone who witnesses a dog worrying livestock, or who has information about this incident, is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police immediately.
