A Brecon-based company was among 12 Welsh organisations honoured with the prestigious Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) for their outstanding support to the Armed Forces community.

SudoCyber Limited, an online training company which began by training military personnel and has now expanded to provide specialist cybercrime training for police officers, was recognised alongside councils, schools, and businesses across Wales at a ceremony held at HMS CAMBRIA, Cardiff Bay on September 25.

The awards evening featured music from Cerys Rees, regimental harpist of The Royal Welsh, and the Regimental Band of The Royal Welsh. Key addresses were given by Commodore Tris Kirkwood OBE ADC, Naval Regional Commander Wales, Western England and Channel Islands, and Brigadier Russ Wardle OBE DL, chair of the Reserves Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Wales.

To achieve Gold, employers must demonstrate a sustained commitment to the Armed Forces community, including providing additional paid leave for Reservists, implementing policies to support veterans and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and advocating for Defence across their networks. This year, 202 organisations across the UK achieved the Gold standard.

SudoCyber’s founders, Jason Davies, Marc Del-Valle, and John Davies, all of whom have served in the Armed Forces, have developed a gamified online training platform featuring over 1,500 labs and challenges, allowing personnel to build cyber skills flexibly at home, in class, or in groups. It is based at the Old Post Office on St Mary's Street.

Brigadier Mark Davis CBE, Commander of 160th (Welsh) Brigade, and Air Commodore Rob Woods OBE, Air Officer Wales, joined Commodore Kirkwood in presenting the awards during the ceremony, recognising employers who go beyond minimum requirements to support those who serve and their families.

Also among the 12 recipients was Basel Cottage Holidays, an award-winning company offering dog-friendly self-catered breaks, based in Llandovery.
