A pilot scheme which saw music return to the streets of Brecon last month has been noted for its success both with entertainers and onlookers.
Over a four-week-period in September, buskers took to the town’s streets every Saturday to entertain residents, tourists and businesses at various locations throughout Brecon and its surrounding areas.
The pilot scheme, which was organised by Brecon Town Council, trialled 16 different locations including St. Mary’s garden, The Bandstand and Y Gaer from 11am -4pm, with an added pitch organised by Angus Kings of Mid Wales Rhythm & Blues Club.
The scheme involved 34 performers of all ages and abilities, and street entertainers came from far and wide including band Kisskie who arrived at the Bulwark to perform from London.
Performers included locals David Jenkins, Adrian Clark and John Eyre and saw performances from local organisations such as Brecknock Little Theatre and Ghostlight.
FThe pilot also saw professional singer Jane Williams from Cardiff, Fiddlebop from Builth Wells and Tiny Town Jazz hailing from Llanwrtyd Wells.
Newly appointed town councillor Michaela Davies - pictured below right - said, “I am very proud that my first initiative through the council has been such a resounding success.
“After a period of such hardship it has been heart warming to see people coming together to enjoy live music again”.
The scheme saw 14 volunteers steward the various locations used to ensure Covid 19 guidelines were followed, including three Brecon town councillors and the mayor, Councillor John Powell.
Mayor Cllr Powell said “Brecon has had a great longstanding reputation for live music events for many years.
“The recent busking has been deemed a great success with lots of positive feedback from locals and visitors commenting on the friendly vibrant atmosphere around town and how they would like to see more similar initiatives happening in the future.”
Brecon Town Council are now preparing to run the busking initiative on a more regular basis which will begin around Easter 2022. The council - which provided the busking photos - said that there will be more details to follow.
