Brecon Lions Club held their annual Christmas charity lunch at The Castle of Brecon Hotel on Tuesday, December 11. An excellent two course lunch from a servery was produced by the staff of the Castle Hotel. Some new and many former customers supported the event for which Brecon Lions Club were most grateful with all profits going to our charity account to help those less fortunate.
During the lunchtime event the club wished to honour a local fundraiser with a presentation. Runner Colin Davies who has been seen training around the town for many years has now been forced to stop running due to a long-term injury. Colin Davies is known locally for his cheerful smile and happy personality with a regular ‘thumbs-up’ to passing motorists. Colin, having a health issue took up running and found that he enjoyed the experience. As he improved his running ability he then took the decision to run in competitive events and to help others less fortunate (a Lions Club main purpose) by raising funds for various charities over the years. Brecon Lions Club recognised these efforts by Colin Davies and presented him with a ‘Certificate of Achievement’ and a solid brass engraved wall plaque mounted on a solid oak board. The plaque was engraved as a memento for his courage, endeavour and good humour. A very worthy human being and a credit to his parents. The presentation was welcomed by all who attended with loud and long applause. To add to Colin’s day he won a major prize in the raffle!
Brecon Lions Club will be attending ‘Santa’ in Bethel Square in the week running up to Christmas from 1pm until 5pm every day. Bring the young ones along to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas! In recent years Brecon Lions Club found it difficult to get people to assist in our Santa sleigh around the town and villages. So, sadly due to older members we were forced to stop this much loved event. However, with the recruitment of new and younger members to the club, we hope next year that we can resume the Santa Sleigh. If you wish to assist in this venture please contact secretary Derek on 01874 611050.
