Dyfed-Powys Police have expressed condolences and reassured residents after a deadly shooting in Australia targeting the Jewish community at a Hanukkah event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

The force has said it is closely monitoring any tensions locally and will engage with communities across the region to provide reassurance.

At least 15 people were killed, including a 10-year-old girl, two rabbis, and a Holocaust survivor in the attack yesterday (Sunday).

Police have declared the incident a terror attack. Two gunmen, a father and son, were involved; the elder was shot dead by police, while his son remains in critical condition.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the attack as “an act of antisemitism... [and] terrorism on our shores” and vowed to strengthen gun laws in response.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the events that have been reported from Australia, and our thoughts are with all those affected, particularly members of the Jewish community. We will continue to monitor any tensions in our area closely. Local teams will be engaging with different groups, businesses, and key individual networks throughout Dyfed-Powys to provide reassurance to the community.”
